Do all plumbers in Phoenix have insurance?
Unfortunately, in every state, a variety of unlicensed “contractors” exist.
In Phoenix, and all of Arizona, a licensed plumber is a plumber who has passed criminal background checks and gone through the proper channels to get licensed. Licenses are given out by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.
Why not just hire someone from a Craigslist “Gig”?
If someone is posing as a plumber without a license, there is a problem. If you suspect that you have come across an unlicensed plumber or contractor, report them to Arizona Register of Contractors at their Tips Hotline. They also have a contractor search if you wish to check license status yourself.
Plumbers insurance is important
Licensed plumbers are bonded and insured with general liability insurance coverage. This protects plumbers, their employees, and the customers all at the same time. Some things covered include bodily injury, property damage, and medical expenses.
Scrapes and bruises happen every day. While it would be extremely rare for a plumber to get seriously injured, it does happen. Just 2 weeks ago, a plumber died in an explosion while installing a furnace in Massachusetts.
This attorney in Los Angeles describes on his plumbing accidents article how plumbers could become injured and hold homeowners liable, from being bit by dogs to falling off of ladders, or even just tripping on stairs. It happens.
