Sometimes when we come out to check out a plumbing backup we discover broken sewer lines. Not all sewer lines break naturally; sometimes they have a helping hand from the utility company.
The utility companies have been using “trenchless boring” (aka horizontal boring) to install new underground utilities. We’re seeing more and more broken sewer lines that they just leave behind for people to find and report. Sometimes the damage done by horizontal boring is minimal and goes undetected but causes big problems later.
One way we discover broken sewer lines is with our sewer cameras. These work by going down in to the sewer line and letting us see precisely what is happening inside. You can read all about our sewer cameras here on our page, Sewer Camera & Inspection in Phoenix AZ.
Will the utility company pay for the broken sewer line?
Some utilities have contractors come right out and fix it. Others have the homeowner fix it and then send a reimbursement check.
