Toilet parts that we replace
- Flush Lever. This is the most commonly broken part in the toilet and many homeowners are comfortable performing this repair themselves. It generally includes loosening 1 nut.
- Flapper Valve. This part is usually made of rubber and has a little chain on it. The flapper valve controls the flush.
- The Float. This system controls how much water is allowed into the tank. The float floats up and down with water levels turning water on or off. Sometimes this looks like a rubber ball. It is usually attached to a float arm.
- Other Parts. Other parts of the toilet which break, just not nearly as often, include the trip lever, ballcock, refill tube, and overflow tube.
Replacing toilets
Some toilet installations are very simple and straightforward. Others are complicated and require plumbing changes, pipe replacements, fittings and adapters. Unless the bowl is cracked, most can be fixed without being replaced. In the event that you do decide to replace the unit yourself, keep our number handy in case you get stuck or run into sewage problems.
To remove your old toilet: the process usually includes- shutting off the toilet’s water supply, removing all of the water from the bowl and tank, disconnect the supply line, remove the top tank (careful, they are heavy), loosen the bolts from the floor (if you see any water damage here, call us), remove the toilet (you may have to rock it due to the wax seal), plug the drain (very important, you do not want the gas from the sewage line getting in to your home), scrape down the wax from the mounting flange.
Of course, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the new toilet. If it doesn’t fit and you can not find the parts to make it fit feel free to call us, they are probably sitting on our truck or toolbox.
