If you’re going to send your kids out as plumbers for Halloween there is one logical place to start, especially if you have two children: Mario and Luigi.
Famed plumbers for Nintendo, both brothers are colorful and fun to wear and will get lots of candy, especially from nostalgic young parents.
Those are the most famous plumbers in the world, without question, even though they wouldn’t know a snake from an Ethernet cable.
You can even find racier adult costumes with the same basic scheme, although without the M and the L on the hat, since Nintendo doesn’t authorize them.
Another idea which is less popular around the shop but which you still might go for is the “plumber jeans” plumber costume.
Plumber jeans are subject to many jokes in the popular culture, but they are inevitable when you wear a heavy belt and tools around your waist. Try not to stare at the plumber gods. They do not forgive easily.
Or you could go as a toilet proper (your kid we mean. Because you’re too mature to dress as a toilet and go to a party. Nope. Never happen).
For a smaller child you could make a plunger costume. This would involve a stick and a sort-of skirt.
For adults with long memories you could go as Watergate plumbers, but it would probably work best in D.C.
In general, plumbing presents some fun opportunities for costumes, but it’s really hard to get much better – at least for kids – than Mario and Luigi. They all know them – trust us here – and the sentiments are warm.
The grownup costumes as we suggested aren’t something you’d, uh, actually do plumbing work in, but for a Halloween party with friends, you could do worse.
