Frequently Asked Questions

What’s A Rooter Machine?

A rooter is a type of machine that’s designed to get rid of trapped debris clogging a sewage pipe. These machines come in all shapes and sizes, but they must have some type of line (usually made of steel) with a sharp tool attached to the top. Most devices are motor-powered, but there are a few that still require a bit of elbow grease to operate.

During a rooting service, plumbers snake the rooter’s line down your drain. Your plumber will then turn the rooter system on to pulverize all of the sewage trapped in your pipes.

Just imagine for a second: before rooters existed, the only way people could get rid of clogs was to dig up their sewage lines and perform manual cleanings. Obviously, the rooter machine has saved a lot of time (and a lot of headaches!) in the modern plumbing industry.

So, why are these devices called “rooters?” Well, you’ve probably already heard of the historic “Roto-Rooter” machine, which was the first of its kind in the 1930s. The primary reason Mr. Samuel Blanc created his Roto-Rooter was to get rid of tree roots, hence the name.

Although we still use rooters to get rid of unwanted tree debris, these machines are designed to bust through pretty much anything that’s clogging your home’s pipes. Whether it’s food particles, hair, or some other kind of encrusted material, a good rooter service should be able to clear it all away.

Why Would You Need Rooter Services?

Most people call for a rooter service as soon as they notice one of their drains is clogged. Warning signs typically include a foul-smelling odor, water backup, and unresponsive flushing at one or more drainage sites.

You definitely don’t want to wait to address these drainage issues. The sooner a professional rooter can clear away unwanted debris, the higher chance you won’t require more drastic (and expensive) repair work.

Who Has the Most Affordable Rooter Service in Glendale?

Leading the Glendale community in service and value, 59 Rooter and Plumbing takes pride in the fact that our prices are about half what our major competitors charge for the same job. In fact, we consider ourselves “The half-price Plumbers” on all rooter and repair work that we do.

An Experienced Sewer Rooter Service You Can Trust and Depend On

Our Ridged K-60 sectional sewer cleaning machine can rooter up to 250 feet into any 4-inch residential sewer line and we have an assortment of cutting tools to cut through nasty root intrusion or blockage that may be stopping flow in the sewer system. The best remedy for a stopped sewer system is to call a plumber you can trust and depend on to do the job the right way.

On those rare occasions when the Ridged K-60 sewer cleaning machine will not penetrate a stopped sewer line we will resort to the use of our state of the art Ridged See Snake that is equipped with a built-in camera lens and a locator beacon that will give us an exact image and location of the problem that is causing the blockage in the sewer system.

A big offender is the tree that has become so huge that it overpowers and breaks the sewer line in such a way that it needs to be repaired at the location of the breakage. We have repaired numerous sewer lines that tree roots have damaged, and a professionally repaired sewer line can be expected to last 20, 30, or even 50 years longer than it may otherwise last.

Before the 1970s when plastics became the industry standard for sewer & drain lines, many sewer system installations were done with the dreaded “Orangeburg” pipe materials that proved to be an inferior product over time. It’s a tar paper type material that had its manufacture origins in Orangeburg NY. And so it came to be known as orangeburg pipe, the dreaded sewer pipe material that becomes mashed down (or even flat) over time and requires multiple repairs or even complete replacement.

But Wait, There’s More – Secondary Rooter Treatments

It’s important to keep in mind rooter services don’t just include the use of a specialized rooter machine. Of course, snaking a line down your drain is the hallmark of standard rooter service, but plumbers also have secondary tools to help clear your pipes.

For instance, sometimes it will be appropriate to use specialized chemicals to destroy any substances that get caught in your drains. Additionally, you might find some plumbers who carry hydro-jetting machines that send a pressurized stream of water through your pipes.

Of course, every sewage issue is slightly different and requires different tools. When you call Rooter & Plumbing Services, you can be sure we’ll only quote you what’s absolutely essential for your particular issue.

Why You Should Trust Our Rooter

Back when Rooter & Plumbing Service began offering sewer rooter services in 1992, the only rooter we had to work with was a Spartan spool style machine. Thankfully, a lot has changed since then in terms of rooter technology, so now we can offer faster & more efficient service with a lot less manual labor.

Today, we use a Ridged K-60 sectional sewer cleaning machine on all of our rooter jobs. Measuring 250 feet in length, this bad boy can bust through roots, sewage, and debris that are clogged in all standard 4-inch residential sewer lines. Rooter & Plumbing Service also has a fantastic variety of cutting tools sure to clear out home’s sewage pipes.

Although the Ridged K-60 works almost every time, Rooter & Plumbing Service also carries a Ridged See Snake machine which has a hi-tech camera attached to it. Using this device will help us figure out exactly what’s causing your sewage blockage if the K-60 isn’t working well. If there’s damage or breakage in your sewage lines, Rooter & Plumbing Service can offer your professional pipe repairs we guarantee will last for decades.

Although we can’t offer the same prices we did back in the 1990s, we often beat our competitors’ prices by as much as half. Heck, you might’ve already heard of us by our nickname “The Half Priced Plumbers,” which we’ve been dubbed by many satisfied Glendale customers.

But don’t think for a second just because our prices are low you’re getting inferior quality service. Rooter & Plumbing Service is consistently ranked as one of the top Glendale-area plumbers on Yelp! and we’ve been going strong for over 30 years. Whatever your sewage system needs, you can be sure Rooter & Plumbing Service will get to the bottom of it.
