About bathtub and shower drain backups
We recently discussed kitchen sink backups and backups in the shower are really very similar. A backup is when water is not going down the drain and possibly even coming in through the drain. When you are experiencing a sewage backup, the tub or shower may be the first thing to back up, especially if it is on the ground floor. If you have a true sewage backup it is only a matter of time before another drain in the home backs up. It is important to not run the dishwasher or clothes washing machine while you have a sewage backup.
Fixing and cleaning drains
Most repairs can be made via our sewer rooter service. We rarely have to do a camera inspection, we do however have this tool on our truck. Some companies will try to sell this service right away which usually runs $200 – $300 (price varies). With a sewer camera inspection, your plumber snakes a camera down your pipes and can see precisely what is going on in your sewage line. One common cause of a sewage backup is a collapsed line or tree roots in the line.
Sewage backup symptoms in showers and tubs
If you have a sewage backup you may experience 1 or more of the following problems:
- Flushing the toilet pumps water into the shower or other drain in the bathroom.
- Running a bathroom sink and the toilet water rises (also see toilet backups).
- Running a washing machine pumps water into the shower drain.
- Bad smells coming from drains (also see sewer odors).
