A rooter, by definition, is someone who roots!
Ok, ok, this IS a plumbing website, and today we’re discussing sewage rooters, although sometimes people do root for my rooter.
Let’s start with some history.
The first rooter.
Back in the day…. If a tree root blocked your sewage line or clogged the underground pipe outside your home, the ground had to be dug up until the problem was discovered.
Then in 1933, Samuel Blanc came up with a cable that could rotate sharp blades to cut tree roots. His wife named this plumber’s snake a “Roto-Rooter”.

Current rooters
Here we use cameras to see deep down in your sewage pipes to see what the problem is.
Rooters these days can retrieve items such as clothing and silverware. Saw attachments are hooked up to the rooter to blast through tree roots.
